FITZ Mallorca named Audiotechnik before it named the cocktail list. That is not gear fetish. That is the difference between a nightclub and a bar with a DJ.
A dance record is unfinished until it hits a system that can hold the low end without smearing the hats. XL’s productions assume that. If your local room is a pair of blown tops and a sub in the wrong corner, even a well-mastered 12" will feel cheap. Promoters who invest in the rig are investing in the music.
DJs should do the same homework. Ask what is in the booth. Ask if anyone actually tuned it. Bring records that suit the room — not just the ones that look good on a USB screenshot. A peak-time breakbeat on a thin system is a waste of both the record and the crowd.
